There are a number of ways that you can get involved with your local Mechanics’ Institute!
Volunteer
We welcome volunteers who would like to participate in research, taking tours, retail, fundraising, archiving, maintenance, and cataloguing. We also welcome people who would like to assist with operating our bar, or would like to learn more about the technical and operational setup for our theatre and events.
The Reading Room
We currently have an on-site book club that accepts new members all the time. The Reading Room is a member run book reading and discussion group that meets monthly. The sessions are free and when possible will be held in our Heritage Reading Room. The titles discussed will be published in our monthly newsletter and social media and Latest Library News on this website.
Building Tours
If you are more of a casual visitor to the BMI you can request a tour of our beautiful building! Generally, tours of the BMI take 50 minutes to an hour. Coffee Tea & Biscuits are served as part of the tour. You are welcome to bring a community group or a whole heap of friends along for your tour. Bookings are essential and the cost for tours is $10 per person.
