Sandra, (Clare Dunne), is a young mum struggling to provide her two daughters with a warm, safe and happy home in which to grow up. With very little income and no savings, Sandra perservers to build a house from scratch in Dublin: an ambitious dream whilst trying to escape the grip of a possessive husband and attitudes that make ‘it all too hard’.
A tough social-realist film with characters such as a Peggy, a supportive cleaning client and Aido, a friendly house builder, Herself portrays a world in which empowerment can prevail over callous bureaucratic naysaying.
This month’s film supports the Ballarat Irish Association.
