In the period 1832-1850 the Chartists of Britain tried and failed to extend Democracy to all male citizens. In the 1850‘s the Chartists of Ballarat succeeded. This talk will explore how the diggers of Ballarat obtained economic power, how they converted that economic power into political power, and what they did with that power.
About Doug Bradby
Doug Bradby
Doug has spent his life in Ballarat being educated at Urquhart St P. S. and Ballarat High School. He worked as a secondary school history teacher until his retirement and since then he has written 36 Ten Delightful Tales about the Ballarat goldfields. Doug’s grandfather walked from Geelong to the Ballarat goldfield as a ten year old boy in 1858.
