School Tours of the BMI
On 9 October the BMI hosted students from:
- Lucas Primary School
- Lal Lal Primary
- Delecombe Primary
- Buninyong Primary, and,
- Mt Egerton Primary
Event Overview
An engaging, educational day at the Ballaarat Mechanics Institute, designed to spark creativity and curiosity. The program includes a poetry writing workshop to develop writing skills, a guided tour and scavenger hunt to explore the history and architecture of the BMI, and a visit to Collins Booksellers on Lydiard Street to discover the world of bookselling and local literature.
A perfect blend of learning, creativity, and exploration in one of Ballarat’s most historic cultural spaces.
Feedback
- Loved the activities.
- Loved the short, sharp frog story The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County as told by Mark Twain in a Southern accent, made a challenging story accessible to the students.
- Love the Mark Twain story, the kids were able to ‘close your eyes, imagine the story’. It gave the kids permission to just sit back and enjoy it.
- The poetry writing timing was great, moving around the different objects.
- The students had a much greater appreciation for the BMI after the tour.
- They loved being able to touch the books and artifacts.
- I loved the discussion of the gold in Ballarat linking to the BMI.
