Garry Disher at the BMI

We had a packed house in the Humffray Room for Garry Disher on Sunday.

Garry proved a witty and articulate interviewee, and had the audience of over 80 rapt with tales of his literary career (being nominated for the Booker Prize); amusing anecdotes about readers who worry that the author “condones” the awful things his characters do; and an interesting discussion on the reappraisal of Crime Fiction, and how as a genre, it allows us to delve in to the psychology of humans and why we behave as we do.

It was clear that many of the audience were avid Garry Disher fans, and they raised some lively questions, which Garry answered with consideration and insight. Garry was charming and generous as he stayed back to sign copies of his books and have some photos taken. As the patrons (and Garry) enjoyed an afternoon tea of scones and jam and cream, the patrons mingled and provided very positive comments about the event to BMI staff.
