We are open for the Ballarat International Foto Biennale! Come visit our exhibition of photographs from the Max Harris Collection on the theme of Rupture.
For this week’s FlashBackFriday we are featuring a photograph from the exhibition, Lydiard Street Flood, 1991.
On New Year’s Eve in 1991, Ballarat experienced 76mm of rainfall which caused flooding across the city. This photograph shows Lydiard Street North cut off from the city at the Railway Station gates, people and cars halted at the water’s edge.
The floods caused an estimated $24 million in damage.
