The Ballaarat Mechanics’ Institute (BMI) is Ballarat’s oldest cultural organisation. Established in 1859, the BMI has played, and continues to play, a leading role in shaping Ballarat’s historic and cultural identity.

This year will be the most challenging in our 162 year history.

After a year with significantly reduced income, we are looking to our members and the wider community to help secure the future of the BMI through these tough times.
