The Ballaarat Mechanics’ Institute in partnership with the Melba Opera Trust will be presenting three young artists who have been awarded a scholarship to help develop their artistic skills to enable them to become well rounded operatic artists.

The program

Nellie in her own Write fits perfectly with the Ballarat Heritage Festival and is a wonderful opportunity for our community to engage and learn about Nellie as the superstar she was, when she visited Ballarat, and still is today.

The performers, Nathan Bryon, Natalie Grimmett & Tom Nicholson under the guidance of and accompaniment by Sharolyn Kimmorley AM, will perform items from programs Nellie performed here in Ballarat. The program will be supported by and interspersed with narration by Stefan Cassomenos which will include anecdotes from Melba’s memoir, Melodies and Memories. It will be a perfectly delightful afternoon.

Afternoon Tea

After the performance, guests will have the opportunity to meet the artists in the Library where afternoon tea will be served with the rattle of fine china and will be provided by the Rotary Club of Alfredton (included in price).

The Many Roles Of Nellie Melba

In the Heritage Reading Room you will be able to visit an exhibition mounted by Our Collection volunteers, The Many Roles Of Nellie Melba which includes pictures from our Heritage Book Collection and newspaper clippings from our Heritage Newspaper Collection.

Vintage & Collectables

We will also have on display some fitting opera-wear supplied by our Vintage & Collectables shop.
