A Message from the Chair | BMI Board of Directors | January 2025

Spinal Tap
The Rolling Stones

Hello everyone.

I imagine that when you all get to your inbox to see this note, Christmas will be behind us! On behalf of the board, I hope you have all managed to rest and recharge somewhat in preparation for 2025!

As you will see below, activity at the BMI will cease for a short time, but just long enough for staff and volunteers to gear up for two more Rock Music Documentaries- This Is Spinal Tap and Gimme Shelter (Rolling Stones) on January 15th and 22nd respectively. These events are linked to the Art Gallery of Ballarat’s Medieval to Metal exhibition.

Huge thanks goes to Zlatko Balazic and John McKee who together form Human Designs for their fabulous and voluntary contribution to the BMI by creating our Christmas Festival Activity in the Minerva Room – lots of fun for all.

Thanks also to all our sponsors for the array of Christmas raffle items- I hope you were a winner!

Our book sale continues through January, as will the sale of our calendars featuring heritage images of Ballarat – now available at a reduced price to clear.

We are delighted to announce the signing of key Memorandum of Understanding Documents between the BMI and Royal South Street Society, Ballarat National Theatre and BallaRat Pack. These partnerships will assist all our organisations to have a wider reach, share assets and provide assistance to each other as we recognize the common goals of community coherence. We welcome these groups as community members.

This will result in these organisations hosting more events at the BMI bringing new audiences in and enhancing our event offering to our members. Thanks to everyone involved in these positive developments.

Thanks so much to the Ballarat Singers and The Little Brass Band who came together generously to entertain both the BMI and Royal South Street volunteers at our Christmas party in December. We all had a fabulous time and it was terrific to see the Humffray Room full of festive joy.

We welcome the Organs of the Ballarat Goldfields back into the Minerva space on January 13th also – tickets through their website, or program information is available on our website.

Please feel free just to pop in to the library for a cool break from these warm days and bring a friend!
