BMI General Meeting Notice – Monday June 28th 2021 at 4pm

Members of the Ballaarat Mechanics’ Institute (BMI) are advised that a General Meeting of the Institute will be held at the BMI – 117-119 Sturt, Ballarat Central 

On Monday June 28th at 4pm

This meeting will be held in person with COVIDSafe requirements and allowances in place. If restrictions do now allow for this meeting to take place in person it will be conducted and available to attend via Zoom with details sent to members if needed.

Moved Terry Lloyd, Seconded Paula Nicholson, that:
“The Rules of the Institute as adopted on be replaced by version 7.1 of the Constitution and version 7.1 of the proposed By-Laws (as available on the BMI website – ballaratmi.org.au/governance-documents-changes)
In particular note that Rule 3.1 of the Constitution will state:
The objects of the Institute are to promote an inclusive and diverse community. This is achieved through sharing knowledge, providing a unique place to engage with history, and  a vibrant hub for community events. We promote and work in partnership with our members and the community to achieve our goals.”
 
5. An amendment to Rule 3.1 has been proposed;
Moved Frank Hurley, Seconded Rex Bridges that
“The Rules of the Institute as adopted in December 2009 be replaced by version 7.1 of the Constitution (as  available on the Institute Website)
In particular note that Rule 3.1 will state:
The objects of the Institute are to advance the interests of its members and the wider community by maintaining and strengthening its role, begun in 1859, in spreading knowledge and enriching cultural life and by  preserving and utilising its heritage building and collections for the benefit and promotion of an inclusive, diverse community.”
 
6. To provide transitional machinery provisions covering current Board members: 
Moved Frank Hurley, Seconded Rex Bridges that 
“A current Director whose term would be ongoing at the time of adoption of this Constitution will continue as a Director until the date of expiration of that term provided that the Director is not excluded by any other provision of this Constitution.”
