President’s Christmas Message

A message from the President

I would like to say thank you – to our supporters, members, volunteers, fellow directors, and staff. This year has been one unlike any other and tenacity and determination that the BMI community has shown is what he’s ensured we are still surviving.

2020 has seen the BMI closed for an extended period when members were not able to borrow books or visit the library, and we could not host events. This however was also a blessing in disguise. It allowed us to perform some major maintenance as well as clear out the basement before renovations start (in early 2021) without disturbing other people. I send a big thank you to those who lent us their time and strength to make sure this happened.

This year has also been a time of considerable change for the organisation. We have taken on more staff (thanks to a Victorian Government/Creative Victoria grant) and recruited new board members. We have advanced our technical equipment and produced more of our own events (including the very successful Bushfire Relief concert). We have also shifted around large parts of our collection. Thank you to members for embracing this change and helping the organisation progress.

I would like to extend a very big thank you to the staff of the Institute. Without their dedication and resilience throughout the past year I don’t think the BMI would have been able to survive the past 12 months. They have worked tirelessly throughout difficult circumstances to ensure the viability of the organisation through grants, donations, and delivery of membership services. The organisation is currently in-fact in a better position than it was this time last year, and I think that is a reflection on the support of our staff. I would also like to welcome the new staff that we have recently hired; Mark, Katrina, Nick, and Sam #2!

Finally, thank you – the members and supporters – for your unwavering support. On behalf of the Board and staff of the BMI I would like to wish you and your family a safe and peaceful Christmas and a happy, safe, and enjoyable 2021.
