Curator’s Corner February 2018
I am looking forward to another great year of culture and creativity at the BMI with White Night and Ballarat Heritage month coming up again soon, and lots of other projects on the go. It is fabulous having volunteer coordinator Marilyn Furness on board to help get people involved and inspired! Look out for more on exhibitions and activities as the year unfolds, and don’t forget to follow along with us on social media at @bmiballarat.
We are currently working on a project with a Mechanics’ Institute library grant from the State Government to develop our display capabilities and accessibility to the collection. This includes signage in the heritage library and reference area and it’s great to be working with local heritage signwriter Phil Berry with inspiration from our archives. How beautiful are these old signs in our collection?
Following on from Rosemary’s popular holiday book sale we also want to let you know about our Max Harris Photography Collection SALE which will be happening throughout February in the library. Come and get discounted prints and products and join us on Saturday 17 February between 10 and midday for your opportunity to meet Max and ask any burning questions about Ballarat history in images. Here we are at last year’s historic Ballarat trivia fundraising night. Look out for more fun events like this too or get in touch with any ideas: firstname.lastname@example.org.
A big thanks also to Ballarat’s awesome network of cultural organizations and their generous staff who are always willing to lend a hand or an ear as we go along too. It was great to show the team from M.A.D.E around earlier in the year.
