Curator’s Corner – September 2017
with BMI Curator Amy Tsilemanis
There’s lots to enjoy at the BMI through the wintery months
As the hint of Spring tempts us, we are enjoying welcoming people in to the BMI with our new exhibition ‘Imprints: Storytelling the City.’ As part of the Ballarat International Foto Biennale fringe, the show features never before seen photographs produced by Ballarat inventor Henry Sutton in the 1890s and a unique experience of the Max Harris Collection, displaying different views and perspectives on the city. We have a great programme of events happening including an opening event on September 1st at 7pm that will feature live performance from our guest artists Ellen Sorensen and Barry Gilson, please join us! Drinks will be at bar prices. In other BMI collection news you can now explore Ballarat house images from the Max Harris Collection on Victorian Collections https://victoriancollections.net.au.
We also have a new selection of postcards featuring historic Ballarat as well as prints and wrapping paper. Thanks to all the people that are bringing us interesting photos and stories, we look forward to sharing them soon! I have also been loving taking Saturday morning tours of the building and collections with lots of interest in our beautiful BMI. Enjoy that sunshine!
