President’s Report July 2017
1. Twilight Talks
The talks in June went very well. We have three most interesting talks to come in July:
7 July: Jenny Debney speaking about Dr Fanny Reading (1884-1974) who grew to maturity in Ballarat and then became a significant community leader in Sydney.
14 July: Thomas Watson & Baptiste Breliere who will explain how they created a film about Thomas’ grandmother who was a prisoner-of-war in World War Two.
21 July: Graeme Johnstone who will tell us about the Clunes Booktown Festival and the development of the revitalised Clunes village.
All BMI members are encouraged to attend and ‘spread the word’ to other people.
2. Thank You
We have received a letter from the City of Ballarat thanking the BMI staff and volunteers for their assistance on the Ballarat Heritage Weekend that was held in the last weekend of May. A total of 3919 visitors came to the BMI over the two days. They were among the16,449 visitors to Ballarat – a record for the Heritage Weekend!
3. BMI Tours
A reminder that we have decided to discontinue the Thursday at 2pm guided tours and instead from the start of July will provide $5 ‘tourist-based’ talks on Saturday mornings from 10.30 to 11.30am. We are encouraging people to book for the tours that will be based on the BMI as well as providing general tourist information about Ballarat.
