President’s Report April 2017
1. White Night
Congratulations to all involved with making the first Victorian regional ‘White Night ‘ on Saturday 4 March such a success. In particular, our Curator Amy Tsilemanis was involved in many hours of organising the various musical presentations at the BMI. We estimate that about 2000 people visited the Humffray Room during the evening.
2. Twilight Talks
Talks have continued to progress very well. In March we have had talks by Jenny Burrell, Peter Gilbert, Barb Dunlop and John Hosking. The Ballarat City CEO Justine Linley is presenting on the last day of March and we look forward to her talk about the future directions of Ballarat.
In April we have a talk by Dr Bill Garner about the history of the Ballarat suburb of Mount Pleasant on 7 April. We miss Good Friday and then we have Dr Jill Blee speaking about the history of Cuthbert’s Law Firm on 21 April. As a ‘special’ we have added on 28 April a documentary film ‘The Last Goodbye’ and two speakers about the one hundred year history of Ballarat’s RSL.
3. Members Discount
A gentle reminder to all BMI members to ensure that each person’s membership remains current. It certainly helps us meet our considerable costs as a not-for-profit organisation. Recently we purchased a new photocopier and members are entitled to a 10% discount for private photocopying. The rates are black & white 25 cents a page and colour copying 60 cents a page (less 10% for members). Also we have a number of recently published books about Ballarat organisations and these attract a 10% discount.
